Why I started Charma?

There is no easy answer to this question. Perhaps it is a combination of love for fashion, respect for nature and a need to live a more sustainable life.

For many years I have been concerned about the chemical load we are subjected to everyday through our cosmetics, food, clothing, cleaning agents, pollution and even the wall paints leaking chemicals into our breathing air. I've been learning to avoid these in my everyday life and I want to help other people do the same. That is just one of the reasons why I was so mesmerized about natural dyes. A less chemical loaded way to bring color into our lives! I believe the chemical load in our clothes is a lot more serious problem than most people care to admit. You can read more about it HERE. 

I am an clothing artisan, graduated from the Omnia vocational college in 2013 from a Clothing design and manufacture program. I have always had a big passion for textiles, fashion and beauty and I had a dream as as a kid to be a fashion designer and own my own brand. Now I am working on this dream and incorporating sustainability in these areas. For the last year I have been attending a Creative sustainability program at the Hallormsstaðaskóli-school in East Iceland where the process of creating Charma got started. There I got a comprehensive understanding of many aspects of sustainability and the importance of incorporating these practices to the best of our ability.
